Best Baby Wipes For Newborns – You’ll Want To Read This!

When I started stocking up on goodies for the little one I did so much research on baby wipes. I didn’t know which to choose so my only option was to buy and try. When you look online there are so many mixed reviews. One site promotes Pampers wipes, one does Water Wipes, another Huggies wipes, it all starts to become overwhelming.

So what are the best baby wipes for newborns?

First I want to go through three brands you may be familiar with, Water Wipes, Pampers Pure Wipes, and Huggies Natural Care Wipes, and then I’ll give my opinion and my all-time favorite.

Why is this so important? It’s just a baby wipe.

Wrong. It’s not just a baby wipe, it’s something that will be very close to your little one’s skin. Just like baby wash and lotion, knowing what’s in your baby wipes and if it’s any good is crucial.

Cheap baby wipes could contain harsh chemicals that leave your baby’s bottom red and uncomfortable. Seeing as how you’re going to be using quite a lot of wipes on your baby’s skin on a daily basis you want a wipe that will be free of chemicals and able to grab the mess from a poopy bum.

Comparing the wipes.

The first baby wipe I became familiar with was Water Wipes. Because my baby was a newborn I didn’t want to use anything that could irritate his skin, and Water Wipes have the purest of ingredients. At first touch, these wipes are super soft. They are big enough to cover your baby’s whole bottom as you wipe, and they have no strong fragrance smell.

Water Wipes

  • Fragrance-free baby wipes contain 99.9% water with just a drop of fruit extract
  • Ideal for sensitive skin: Textured to capture growing baby’s bigger messes, yet gentle enough for infant skin
  • Simple & clean: Vegan society accredited baby wipes are hypoallergenic and contain no parabens or sulfates to irritate sensitive skin
  • Trusted: Waterwipes is awarded the National Eczema Association of America seal of acceptance
  • Perfect for diaper changing, during weaning and teething, for cleaning baby’s hands and face, and even adult sensitive skincare

What I like about Water wipes is these wipes are perfect for a newborn bottom because they contain mostly water, but they can be a hassle because of that. I used Water Wipes for my baby’s first two months because I bought so much of them and didn’t want to waste them but once they ran out I moved on to Pampers Sensitive Wipes.

What I don’t like is, when you open the pack, the top half of the wipes aren’t nearly as wet as the bottom half. By the time you get to the end, you’re left wringing out your wipes because all of the water left the wipes and went to the bottom.

Pampers Pure Wipes

  • Pampers Pure Protection diapers are crafted with thoughtfully chosen materials for dry and healthy skin
  • Absorbent plant-based liner. Plant-based and polypropylene fiber, enriched with shea butter to help protect skin
  • Hypoallergenic and free of chlorine bleaching, fragrance, parabens, and latex* (*Natural rubber)
  • Locks away wetness from the skin up to 12 hours
  • Designer prints that make Pampers Pure the complete package of style and protection
  • Made with premium cotton for a soft outer cover and breathability
  • Pampers reassuring Wetness Indicator lets you know when your baby might need a change
  • Packaging and products may vary

I love the smooth feel of the Pampers wipe, it’s super soft, you’re not wringing any mess at the end, and they smell great. I like that they are stretchy and not easy to rip and do a good job wiping up a poopy bottom.

But, although they are free of harsh chemicals for some reason my little one had a reaction to them. So I asked other moms what they thought and one mom answered that she uses Pampers Sensitive Wipes because her daughter has eczema and they work perfectly for her.

When I used Pampers Pure Wipes for my son his bottom was left red and irritated after a week, and if I use them for too long he started to develop a rash. Being the frugal mom I am, these wipes went to cleaning toys and his high chair instead of the trash.

Huggies Natural Care Wipes

  • Pure & Gentle Wipes – Natural Care Sensitive Wipes contain 99% purified water and 1% skin essential ingredients for a gentler clean
  • Safe for Sensitive Skin – Hypoallergenic & dermatologically tested, infused with aloe & vitamin E to keep baby’s skin healthy and moisturized
  • pH Balanced – Natural Care Sensitive Baby Wipes are pH balanced to help maintain healthy skin
  • No Harsh Ingredients – Free of lotions, fragrances, parabens, alcohol & dyes, and elemental chlorine; does not contain phenoxyethanol or MIT

When Jayden was about three months old, I decided to try Huggies Natural Care wipes. I stuck with these wipes for quite a while before moving to their Simply Clean. The wipe is really soft, they stay moist throughout the whole pack, and the quilted pattern makes cleaning up much easier.

This became my go-to wipe for Jayden for the next six months, but as your baby grows, so does the mess so moving onto something better for toddlers was my next mission.

Instead of trying another brand, I decided to stay within the Huggies family and try their Simply Clean wipes. I absolutely love these wipes, and they are perfect for older babies and toddlers. The clean up with these wipes is awesome. They are a good size measuring about 6 ½ inches by 7 ¾ inches, they are alcohol-free and paraben-free, hypoallergenic, and dermatologist tested.

These are your go-to wipes and could be your new favorite. The price for these wipes are very reasonable, I usually get a 3 pack for six bucks and it lasts about a week. If you want to save money on these bad boys, I would opt to invest in a bigger box. You really can’t go wrong with these wipes.

So, what’s my all-time favorite?

Huggies of course. There are mixed opinions about these wipes, and probably from people who have tested them for a couple of days, but I have been using Huggies wipes for years and I’ve never had a problem with them so I encourage you to give them a try. My son is now 3 and I still keep these in my kitchen, bathroom, and car.

Don’t like Huggies baby wipes, what’s your favorite brand? I would love to know. Please share your comments and experiences below I’m sure new moms would love to hear what you have to say.
